Getting your house ready to put on the market can seem like a never ending task. Shorten the chore by moving from one room to another, with this convenient checklist.

Living and Family Rooms:

Keep coffee tables clear

Keep furniture at a minimum

Store toys out of sight

Use pillows and throws to soften the space

Dining Room:

Keep dining room table clear except for a centerpiece

Remove extra chairs from dining table

Try to make table sit atleast 4 people


Clear all items from countertops

Clean tile grout

Clean stove, oven, and microwave

Clear refrigerator of magnets, pictures, and messages

Replace/repair any broken items

Keep mops, broom, vacuums, etc. away

Empty garbage before any showings

Remove pet food and water dishes

Organize pantry to look nice and neat

Box up any extra dishes and cooking supplies you don’t need

Scrub/polish sink to look brand new


Make beds

Clear off bedside tables, dressers, etc.

Store daily necessities away

Organize closets to be nice and neat

Keep closet doors shut

Keep floors clear

Repair holes/ damages to wall


Put soaps and supplies in cupboards

Keep all surfaces and sink clean and empty

Use high watts to make it look brighter

Remove any and all clothing, clean or dirty

Keep floors cleared of color


Clear and clean ALL surfaces

Coordinate linens in one or two colors

Fold towels

Remove all unnecessary items out of shower stalls and tubs

Clean or replace shower curtains

Clean any moldy areas in shower

Replace caulking to make it look new again

Keep all toilet lids shut

Hide garbage cans and cleaning supplies

Organize cabinets to be nice and neat


Look at house from neighbors yard

Clean or repaint front door if needed

Repaint exterior and trim if needed

Sweep all walkways, patios, porches, and decks

Wash windows inside and out

Use outdoor furniture

Pressure wash any stained concrete


Clean and sweep out garage

Keep storage nice and neat

Repaint dirty areas

Pack anything you can live without


Prune bushes and plants to look healthy

Weed all planting areas

Keep lawn freshly mowed, edged, and fertilized

Remove any dead plants

Add flowers for a splash of color

Clean and Replace (as needed):




AC/Heater vents

Light switch covers

Light Bulbs

Front door

Doors and door knobs

Interior and exterior paint

Dust Everything!

Walls, blinds, ceilings, baseboards, windows, A/C intake vents, Ceiling fans, etc.

Make Your Home Inviting:

Rearrange furniture to maximize floor space

Remove extra furniture that is not needed

Pack up knick-knacks and figurines

Remove all but a few decorative books from bookshelf

Nurture house plants

Pack away personal items to de-personalize the home

Reduce wall art to one or two items per room

Add lamps to lighten up dark areas

Leave your home smelling fresh and clean
